THEY CAN FLY(9th Members' Exhibition of ALOK REKHAY)

From 7th to 9th January 2011 ALOK REKHAY organized it's 9th Exhibition in Gaganendra Pradarshashala (Calcutta Information Centre) Kolkata. 72 pictures of it's 16 members were on display. Out of those 7 of mine under the Captioned "THEY CAN FLY" were exhibited. All those were the pictures of Birds that were taken in various parts of West Bengal, a state of INDIA. The first picture titled "Destination Known" is placed below. This was taken in Cooch Behar.

This was the last picture of mine of the exhibition which was shoot in Kolkata.

To make the exhibition memorable, ALOK REKHAY published an English Calendar in conjunction with a friendly company. My picture titled "EVENING LIGHT" was placed in the month of May, which happens to be my Birth Month. The picture was taken in a Tribal Village of Madhukunda of Purulia District of West Bengal. Incidentally the Calendar that was published was 2nd such by ALOK REKHAY.

I have likings for desert activities. During my visit to deserts of India I do regularly take desert pictures. The photograph titled "Desert Climb" one of such. This picture has awarded with a Honourable Mention with FIAP RIBBON in Monochrome Section of ACTA DEL HI CERTAMEN INTERNACIONAL DE FOTOGRAFIA "mALLORCA-2009" with FIAP Patronage NO.2009/092. To make the ALOK REKHAY'S 7th members exhibition a memorable one, we have published a Bengali Calander of 1417. The Calender has 12 pictures. One picture of each of our 12 members is placed on each month. The pictures mainly depicts the place of interest, ie, Photo Travel. My picture titled "Gaddisar Lake" placed in the first month BAISAKH. The picture is given hereunder:-

Title:- DANCE ON ROAD

During Rath Yatra procession the people who join the procession they use to dance to lead the procession. A such scene is presented in the above picture titled " Dance On Road" where ladies dance. Many other pictures of Rath Yatra are placed earlier in this blog.

Rath Yatra is a festival which mainly performed in Eastern India in Monsoon. It is said that Lord Jagannath goes to his Maternal Uncle's house every year with his elder brother Balaram and sister Suvadra in Chariot. The picture below titled "BLOW INTO CONCH" depicts the mood of Lord Jagannath is being carried from his maternal uncle's house to chariot on his way back. It is said that Lord Jagannath is the other form of KRISHNA.

The above picture titled MERRY CHRISTMAS shows the offerings of flowers to Merry by the girl children who were leading the procession. They were leading the procession from one Church to another on a busy road of Kolkata.
Title:- BADNA A FESTIVAL OF DANCE

BADNA is a festival of Santhal Tribes of India. This festival is performed by playing various instruments by the menfolk of the tribe while the ladies dance with the rhythm of the music. This festival is performed to welcome good harvest. A sceme of BADNA festival is on display above through a picture.

Once DURGA PUJA was a festival of Bengal now people from every sphere of life, religion,etc, join to take part in this festival. Goddess Durga every year with her 4 children comes to her mother's house in earth to demolish evils. The worshiping of an idle DURGA is photographed and is being exhibited. The picture titled "WELCOM OF DURGA" is placed above.

ALOK REKHAY is organising from 28th March to 2nd April 2010 it's 7th Photographic Exposition at GAGANENDRA PRADARSASALA in Calcutta Information Centre. There are on display 64 nos of 18X12" size framed photographs taken by it's 15 members. Out of those mine 7 nos of photographs on the theme of ADVENT OF OUR FESTIVAL are there in the Exhibition. The pictures titled Waiting Of A Caravan and Morning Rays In A Camel Fair are inclued herein early. I used a 500 GB External Hard Disk of Seagate to store those images which got crashed and datas could not be easily recovered but at a cost of Rs.40000.00(Rupees Forty Four Thousand)only which is very costly and difficult for me to bear.

In July 2009 at Academy of Fine Arts the 6th exhibition of ALOK REKHAY was organised. My 8 photographs of Puskar Fair which I took in 2008 took place therein. The Puskar Fair, is a biggest cattle fair of INDIA being held every year before the Full Moon of Kartick Month. This is mainly a fair of Camel where camels are being brought from differnt parts of India for sale. Four of those pictures are given here.

ISKON RATH YATRA AT KOLKATA IN 2008

ALOK REKHAY organised an exhibition of 39 photographs of which my 10 photographs were in display. This time the portfolio is of ISKON'S RATH YATRA in Kolkata held in the month of Asar(June)according to Bengali Calender. According to Hindu religion Lord Jagannath visits every year with his brother Balaram and sister Subhadra to his maternal anty's house. During the travel his chariot are pulled by the religious people to acquire holiness. The return journey is known as ULTA RATH YATRA. Usually it falls after 7 days of RATH YATRA. I covered both occasions last year. In the above picture we get the view of Lord Jagannath in his chariot. The other 9 pictures are placed below.

Sweeping the path of Lord's chariot is like acquiring holiness.

People are expressing their happiness on the arrival of Lord Jagannath on the road.

On the return journey of Lord people do enjoy but some feel sad. To bring the mood of a lady the picture is made creatively.

BHUTAN A SCENIC PARADISE

In May 2008 I traveled BHUTAN with friends of Photo Friends, Ichapur. Our stay in Bhutan was for only 4 days. Indian people can travel Bhutan with the permit for respective city and collection of it is time consuming. While Bhutaneese people is having free entry into India. Bhutan is surrounded by India and China. It is in the lapse of Himalayan mountains and it is always having a altitude. During my travel I visited Thimpu(alt.2.400m), the capital of Bhutan, Punakha(alt.1.300m), Wangduephodrang(alt.1.300m),Paro and Ha.

ALOK REKHAY organised an exhibition from 29th March to 1st of April 2009 at Calcutta Information Centre and 10 of my photographs taken in Bhutan were in display there. Bhutaneese people are very calm and gentle. Their face is also attractive and that is why I included 4 Portrait Photographs in my porfolio. One picture titled "Bhutaneese Professor" is not included here as that is shown in other place of this Blog.

PLAY MATE(WANGDUEPHODRANG(alt.1,300m)

An overview of a village on way to Punakha from Thimpu.

On way from Thimpu to Punakha falls the Dochula Pass(alt.3,050m).

PUNAKHA DZONG - built at the junction of Pho Chhu(River) and Mo Chhu in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to server as the administrative and religious centre of the region. The Dzong is open for visitors during Punakha festival and in summer months when the monk body moves to Thimpu.

"BHUTANEESE PROFESS0R"

Photographic Society of Madras organised "ALL INDIA SALON OF PHOTOGRAPHY-2008" to commemorate 150th Anniversary Celebrations. In the Portrait(Colour) Section my creation titled Bhutaneese Professor has got 2nd Award. This picture is taken with D70 camera and 18-70 mm lens. Exposure was at IS0 200 with 1/320,f/9 at 35 mm.
"PLEASURE MOMENT"

In 7th International Loka Salon Lumen 2007, one of my pictures titled "Pleasure Moment" was awarded with FZS Silver Medal. The picture was taken in one of the deserts of Rajasthan state of India in 2007. Here, I used my only digital Camera D70 with 18-70 lens.
In 2006 Photo Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India organised 19th National Photo Contest and Exhibition on the subject"Happiness" in which his picture titled "Waterplay with Kash" was awarded with Honour Mention. The picture was taken in the rural side of West Bengal of India by Nikon D70 camera. This picture was awarded with ADNA ROTARY CLUB SPECIAL AWARD(Peace) In International Photographic Exhibition 2008Fiap2008/028)organised by ADNA ROTAARY CLUB, Turkey.

Debidas used to participate in various International/National Salons. He has got more than 950 acceptances with many awards. But due to reason known to him he stopped participating in salons from 2000. Just after his retirement from service with request from his Master Shri Benu Sen, MFIAP, Hon.EFIAP, a leading photo artist of India and World and his followers specially youngers he decided to resume his participation in salons. He has started works with digital process and got his acceptance through his picture "NEW BEGINING" in AQUEDUCTE.06 Salon which has FIAP Recognition No.2006/12. The picture is in the sensitive mood of three boys in a little pond in the country side just before oncoming of Autumn.

In October 2007 an exhibition was organised in Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. The photographs included in the exhibition were of 20X30" in size. Both Black & White and Colour pictures were there. The exhibition received appreciation from all levels of visitors. The picture titled "Destination Unknown" made in 2006 with the help of Nikon D70 was praised highly. This picture also won an Award in the Howrah Salon 2007 Patronised by FIAP and Recognised by PSA. It has got FIAP Silver Medal from 14th International Exhibition of Photography 2008 organised by The National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka.

Debidas did work with analogue process for 25 yrs before adopting digital techniques. Now he is doing mostly with digital. When needed he is exposing through film camera and later converts the image to digital one.

JOY OF FLUTE

Debidas is very much interested with the life pattern of common people. He did explore many places and took the pictures of the people engaged in their different activities.
Debidas has been honored for a variety of his images all over the world. Winner of the Award of Riga,Spain the only Indian in 1996 for his creation"The Lonely Shephard". Debidas has been honored with the EFIAP,FFIP, APSA, ARPS, ABPS, Hon FCOS and AIIPC. In 2006,he is honoured with EFIAP by FIAP and FFIP by Federation of Indian Photography.

RETROSPECTION

Debidas was born in 1944 in Santipur, a holy place 150 Km north of Kolkata, and started taking pictures throughout India. He retired from RESERVE BANK OF INDIA, the Central Bank of India on 31st May 2004 as an Officer. He is a Commerce Graduate from Calcutta University. He also completed his photography diploma in the year 1978 from Photographic Association of Dum Dum(PAD). The picture titled "Restrospection" was his first awarded picture. He received the BEST PORTRAIT award from Madras Salon in 1979.
